The scrub sink is outside the surgery suite proper (you can see the doors to surgery on the right). It is used only by the surgeons when preparing for surgery.
You can see in the picture that there are no conventional taps on this sink. Once scrubbing, the surgeon cannot touch anything with his or her hands, and so can't use taps to regulate the water. Instead, there is a knee bracket (underneath the sink, pointing to the right in the picture). The surgeon manipulates this with his or her knee to turn the water on and off.
Likewise, the surgeon cannot pick up a bar of soap. Instead, the soap is dispensed from the tan canister just to the right of the faucet. The surgeon steps on the pink squeeze bulb on the floor, and soap is foamed out through the dispenser nozzle. The surgeon should be able to do a thorough surgical scrub and rinse without once touching anything with the hands.
